It's that time: story selection time!
Authors: Thanks to all of you who got your summaries and rough drafts in on time! The form will remain available for late submissions through this Friday, September 23rd. We will add late submissions to the bottom of the post throughout the week, but bear in mind that later additions are less likely to be claimed.
Artists: Have at it! Summaries are listed by canon (all single-canon stories first, followed by all crossovers), and then alphabetical by author. Please comment to this post with the story you would like to claim. Claims via email or PM will not be accepted; you must leave a comment. Once every artist has had the opportunity to claim at least one story, you may claim a second story if you like. Claiming more than one story is a great thing to do if it won't overcommit you, but it is entirely optional. We will edit the post and make an announcement to the community once the second round of claiming is open. Each story may be claimed by only one artist. If you're the first person to claim a story, it is yours. We will email you with the contact information of your author within 48 hours of making your claim. Story selection will remain open until (note that this is later than originally stated!) Sunday, October 2nd at 11pm Pacific Time (Click here for the time in your location). Final Fantasy IV
"To aid the Blue Planet's progress, the Lunarians bind the world's elemental forces into forms meant to serve the human race, forcing minds, bodies, and names upon what will become the four archfiends. Barbariccia manages to escape and goes on a rampage to free her fellows and wipe out humanity, which doesn't go quite as planned. When the archfiends agree to work for Zemus in exchange for their eventual restoration, they set in motion events that may have catastrophic consequences for the entire planet.
The earliest working title for this fic was ""Barbariccia vs. Everything,"" which actually sums it up pretty well."
Warnings: Non-con, slavery, abuse, violence.

Final Fantasy VII
Genfic/slice-of-life/moment-in-time exploration of what the Turks might be doing following their displacement post-Meteor (this takes place before Advent Children). Reno, Rude and Elena do odd jobs to help out with Reeve's plans for the World Regenesis Organization; Tseng acts as Rufus' caretaker and advisor. All of them are living in Healen, having been left with next-to-nothing following Midgar's destruction and garnering a generally unfavorable opinion with the citizens of Edge. Geostigma and who it afflicts is a running theme in this, as well as the bonds between the Turks and the sort of "family" they've created. These bonds are essential in keeping them (somewhat) sane as they cope with the loss of virtually everything-- identity, wealth and power-- without letting a longing for the past consume them. This fic is mostly drama, with a reasonable smattering of (dark-ish) humor.

In the month of February, a bouquet of flowers with an anonymous card was gifted to Tifa, prompting a string of presents to adorn the bar with the everlasting spirit of Valentine's Day. She thought it was nice, while Cloud thought of creepers.
An attempted parody of the many pairings of Tifa as the adults at 7th Heaven wonder who was the one who launched an assault of stuffed animals, crystal swans and flowers at the bar in the name of their beloved.
First attempt at a complete FFVII story.
Nami/Destinyislands
Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
Set some time after Advent Children. Cloud, Tifa, Barret, Marlene, and Denzel are getting the hang of being a family, even if their family is a bit different than most. The adults manage their time between work and the kids, while Denzel and Marlene seek out ways of their own to help out. Lots of one on one bonding between everyone.
Mostly Gen, with some Cloud/Tifa.

Final Fantasy XII
An AU diverging at the very beginning of the game. After the disaster at Nalbina, Vossler returns to Rabanastre to get Ashe out of the palace, but they are caught at the exit by Gabranth. Ashe becomes Queen of Dalmasca as a client state to the Empire, with Gabranth as her advisor. She must navigate rulership without two years of tempering in the Resistance, and without the stalwart allies she would have acquired during the game. Meanwhile, she and Gabranth are developing a slow and grudging respect for each other that could become something more--but only if Ashe does not find out Gabranth's part in her current circumstances.

"Balthier's Guide to Ivalice"
Balthier/Vaan.
Balthier takes us on a tour of Ivalice, from the Westersands to Giruvegan, and not-so-gently guides Vaan into sky piracy the best way he knows how. Which apparently includes a fair bit of leering combined with verbal abuse. Vaan is smarter than anyone suspects and Fran finds the whole thing incredibly amusing.
Takes place concurrent to Final Fantasy XII, and makes reference to Revenant Wings and Grimoire of the Rift.

A surge of power takes out most of Cosmos' warriors, leaving the Warrior of Light, the Onion Knight, and Bartz.

Final Fantasy I/Final Fantasy II
This is a story of darkness and light taking place after the events of FF1, but in the world remade by the events of that game -- the world of FF2. The Black Wizard, in trying to safeguard the new world against the horrors of the old, becomes the man history remembers as the Emperor of Palamecia, and the White Wizard, pregnant and settling down to a new life in a world supposedly free of Chaos, finds that she is the one who must take up arms against one she once considered a companion to the end.
Warnings: Dark.

The one where Yuffie paves the way for Maleficent to come back to Radiant Garden, the one where Lulu has been in an enchanted sleep for ten years -- oh yeah, and the one where Hades wants Vincent's still-beating heart. It's that one, too.

Final Fantasy XII/Dragon Age: Origins/Dragon Age: Awakening
Three years after war's end, Ashe is confronted with a new threat: an invading darkspawn army, bursting from underground caverns throughout Ivalice. Fortunately, Warden-Commander Elissa Cousland and her team of Grey Wardens are not far behind.
Pairings include, but are not limited to, Ashe/Balthier and Alistair/f!Cousland.
