Deadlines: Incoming!

Hi everyone! Sorry we've gone so long between updates and reminders -- we hope all our authors are all making excellent progress. A few things:

1. Artist sign-ups are still open until September 25th! Join us, and send your friends! As of this writing, we only have three artists who are not signed up as a team with an author, and we'd love more. Cookies for anyone who helps us recruit.

2. We've had a question about whether vids and fanmixes are allowed as story artwork, along with more traditional illustrations, and we are happy to announce that the answer is officially YES! More creative outlets can only be a good thing. Currently, video embeds are supported from Youtube, Vimeo, blip.tv, Dailymotion, Viddler, Metacafe, 4shared CreativeCommons, ning and vidders.net. Details about fanmix hosting will be coming soon. Once it's all together, we'll add everything to the FAQ in plenty of time for posting.

3. Authors: the rough draft deadline is coming up on September 18th! Don't panic, though -- this doesn't mean your story needs to be finished, or even completely drafted. Our only requirement is that your draft be at least 33% of the wordcount for your selected level (see the bottom of this post for specifics). Watch for the submission form to be posted sometime next week.

You can also choose not to submit your story for artwork if you're not sure you'll be ready in time -- stories without artwork are more than welcome in the collection! And of course, if you signed up with an artist partner, there's no need for you to submit a summary or a draft.

Hi I've asked a question but now I lost the thread, so just wondering if there's an official thread for questions?

Anyway I'd love to be an artist, however I'm a tad confused regard to deadlines, and whether I have any choice to not illustrate for any stories or subject matters that I'm uncomfortable with?

Hello again! I believe my response to your original question is here. But just in case: The posting deadline for art is the same as for fic -- November 13th. (I've edited the rules post to make this more clear.)

As for the second half of your question: artists choose which story or stories they would like to create artwork for. This should help you avoid subject matter you would rather not work with. I hope this is what you are hoping for! We would love to see you sign up. :)

Hello there! I don't write "drafts" in the traditional sense; I just write the parts as they come and my fics often have sections of random notes to myself/disconnected bits I plan on using. Sooooo... when it comes to the "rough draft" is it okay to submit something like that, provided I clean it up and include a general summary of the fic?

(Also, how do I know if I'm signed up? I DID sign up, as deadcellredux but... I don't recall ever receiving a confirmation, and I just had a paranoid moment)

Yes, that sounds fine! It doesn't need to be a coherent draft, just enough progress that an artist can be fairly confident that you'll finish in time for the November 13th deadline. We will be asking all authors for a summary as well, to aid in the story selection process.

There's no way to check the sign-up list, unfortunately (something we need to fix for next time!), but I just checked and you are there, at the Flare (5k) level. So you're all set!
